GOLDEN EYE // LUSH's Eye Jewel in BEST

Let me cast your mind way back to the balmy sunny days of August.. It was my birthday & exactly a week after that our Wedding Anniversary, so we headed to The Big Smoke to indulge in some treats. One of which was a wonderful massage and spa treatment from the incredible LUSH Spa at Kings Road

I chose Synaesthesia, a super relaxing treatment which seemed to last forever and one of the few treatments which actually saw me headed quickly to the land of nod.

After our visit, we hit up Oxford Street LUSH, and quickly up to the third floor make up counter where I first saw this jewel glimmering away, exclusive only to the Oxford Street Store.

What I love about this product is the potent sunshine-y yellow, is creamy enough to sweep across the eyes without rubbing your skin raw on your delicate lids to get the colour off. There's no staining the next day and the zero-waste packaging initiative; it comes just as is it, in a transportable and recyclable cardboard box, is perfect!

Go bold, sweep it all the way up to  beyond your brow bone & finish it off with a translucent powder to stop creasing.

SWEET AS A NUT // Ere Perez Natural Almond Oil Mascara

Received as a birthday present last month from my in-laws, this mascara is thicker and packs a little more of a dramatic punch to my usual daytime mascara (Green People's Volumising Mascara), and I think that's down to a different wand-shape, with wider spacing between the rows of bristles allowing more space for the inky rich mascara to sit between, thus transferring to the lash.

There's a sweet smell to this product - one that I'm not overly keen on if I'm honest - and I was surprised to the size of the mascara is quite small in comparison to what others are offering at a cheaper price.

But the rich, inky blackness is worth the while requiring less time to build up upon than other mascaras and as per usual, I'm a big fan of Ere Perez's clean branding and pure ethos.

Here's a few snaps of me wearing it:

SILVER LINING PT. 3 // LUSH Silver Lining Pigment in Success

Last but not least!

The final part of this Silver Success Series is something a little more subtle for those of you who want to brave something new by adding a little extra too the norm, but don’t want the drama of Look Two.

What does it achieve? Well, this look highlights the corners of your eyes for a daytime twinkle.

Where?
The inner corners of your eyes

A small flick underneath your bottom lashes in the outer corner

How?
This look is a finishing touch, so set the rest of your make up the same way you would in Look Two.

Keep it precise, and work with the thinness of the brush to essentially follow the inside corner of your eye into the eyelid and towards the pupil.

Now the underlying exterior tick is tricky, mostly to match up to the other, I like to stabilise the line with my little finger on my cheek & follow the angle parallel to the bottom of the eye.
Work with your eye shape, start in the middle and extend outwards.

Explore a few different versions, with the bottom tick shorted or longer - you could even pop it over smokey eyes - it’s supposed to be fun! Afterwards, neaten up with a cotton bud - don’t be discouraged; it might take a couple of attempts.

SILVER LINING PT. 2 // LUSH Silver Pigment Eyeliner in Success

OK!
PART TWO from my Silver Success Series is here.

Pt. 2 remains playful but encourages you to go bolder still by taking it all the way to the brow. There’s an obvious throwback to the 70s here, brought back up to date with a modern, metallic sheen.
The fresh, minimal make up to the rest of the face, means it brightens up a daytime venture and is easy to sass up once Saturday's sun set begins to set.

WHERE?
The entirety of the eye

HOW?

Firstly - Shape up your brows with a couple of simple strokes.

Now >> Cheat it!
Prime the lid with a little foundation and a dusting of powder to set it.

Now >> Mess it up a bit!
Take the silver all along across the lid, down into the inner corner, through the crease and up to the brow bone, extending to the outer corner.
Blend in very lightly with a brush or fingertip towards the outer of the eye.

Now >> Neaten it up!
Take a cotton bud and address the edges, so that’s the inside by the bridge of the nose and on the outside that may have blended into the upper cheek.

Perfect for the weekend
Why not tag me on Instagram with a snap if you're gonna give it a whirl the next time you hit the dance floor?
Enjoy!

SILVER LINING // LUSH Silver Pigment Eyeliner in Success

OK Guys!

First post of 2017

So let’s kick it off with some experimental Spring 2017 Trends shall we?

This week I’m bringing you one of three playful
eye makeup looks that slot nicely into this emerging scene of minimal, barely there makeup - which seems to be a buck from the currently slightly over-egged Instagram trend of contouring.

I've also noticed - much to my delight - there's a lot of glitter around at the moment, as well as a laid back metallic edge to the traditional smudgy, smokey eye.

Now I'm fully aware that I have the luxury of living in downright wacky Brighton; where no one batters an eyelid if you’ve decided to team a jumper with holes in against sequin disco flares you picked up from the back of your mum's wardrobe to wear to work that day…

But despite that, I know it can be scary to go for something a bit different and experimental, so hopefully these little twists on something a little bolder, will give you that nudge to try something different with your everyday - & to be a little bit more playful!

All three looks feature Success by LUSH - a pigmented sleek silver, bottled in the shape of an eyeliner. Of course LUSH is cruelty free, and this particular shade is vegan.
It can be smudged or left precise.

FIRST UP
Where?
The Crease of your Eye Socket

How?
Think: Rainbow Arches
Keep your eyelids clean & your eyebrows sharp
I kept it natural, but add a little mascara if you fancy

EYE SPY WITH MY SMOKEY EYE // Eye Coal from Fat & The Moon

Anyone who knows me well enough, is fully aware of my love for glitter & sequins - so why wouldn’t I pull out all the stops this forthcoming week? A glittery twist on the classic smokey eye, since the Big Day is imminent.

I’d been researching the perfect smokey-eye component for Christmas 2016, so I was intrigued at first when I discovered on The Future Kept a little tin of Eye Coal by Fat & The Moon. I decided to give it a whirl knowing it was an all-natural product, and due to the fact that this inky balm was supplied in a solid tin-form as opposed to a chunky pencil or liquid.

I love the simplicity of this little container; inspired by tried and tested ingredients seen on their travels to India, this little tin of jet black goodness contains only 4 ingredients.

Sunflower Oil
Beeswax
Black Oxide Pigment
White Clay

This means less toxic fillers and junk, to provide a clean and gorgeous product that does exactly what it says on the tin.

Upon use - it’s fully matte and surprisingly not greasy. It stays exactly where it’s placed and doesn’t slip around the skin like you’ve rolled around in oil or crease up in the eyelid. It sat perfectly all day & is happy to be smudged around like an eyeshadow or with the right tool, perfected into the slickest cat eye flick.

I’ve used it both as an eyeliner & a shadow in these images, using no other eyeshadows, and dotted a little loose glitter under my eyes for a Festive Twinkle.

Merry Christmas guys, here's to 2017!

ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK // OCC, Butter London, NARS

We're in the clutch of Autumn and the colour of the season is Orange!
Pumpkins, leaves turning, and cute little berries on wintery walks amongst twigs.
A bright Orange pop is also one of my all time favourite shades so I thought I'd spice up the Autumnal palettes a little bit with a powder blue liner, bright nails and a bold lip colour from Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics.

I must admit I've heard a lot of positive noise about the OCC Lip Tars, but I really struggled to get to grips with it at first, however I think I might've mastered it. Lip balm to prime, not applying too much initially to prevent bleeding out of the lip line and allowing time for it to set. I wouldn't say it dries to a complete matte finish; it does still remain slightly sticky and I don't feel completely at ease that it won't bleed, but it's hard to compete against the ultra high pigmentation that I'm seeking.
This colour is called Beta

Next, to match - Butter London's (3 Free) Nail Lacquer in Silly Billy - previously posted about hereAnd upon recently hearing that NARS are fully completely against animal testing, including in their third party suppliers, a playful little tick beneath the eye in their old-y but good-y powder blue (Istanbul) liner finishes it off.

And to top it all off, a couple of tassel earrings made by yours truly to tie in the powder blue and orange-red colour clash - yum.

PERFECT PEEPERS // Volumising Mascara - GREEN PEOPLE

Last week I talked about my exploration into organic mascaras.. Having not yet made the transition across. And this week I’ve managed to get my mits onto the Volumising Mascara by fellow Sussex Locals, Green People.

Full of natural pigments and dowsed in Vitamin E, Sunflower Oil & Organic Beeswax, there is a big difference when applying this inky, sleek little number to my lashes first time.

Slick and not claggy, I was surprised to feel that my lashes seemed instantly nourished and full - rather than bogged down and flakey. Every comb allowed a silken coat; gliding on much smoother than what I am used to and the build up was very effective.

Non-messy or sticky, the wand holds more rigidity than a bushy, bristley wand - but I think this works in it’s favour for defining the lashes and coating them evenly.

I wasn’t expecting definition from a volumising mascara but I’ve been extremely impressed with the definition of my lashes on application - each individual lash seemingly more defined rather than just becoming more heavy upon loading. And they remained at their pre-application curled state so I didn’t need to re-curl to open the eyes up again.

There is an admirable simplicity in the packaging; a glossy black tube with exactly what it needs to say highlighted in a zero fuss font. Plus all the ingredients on the packet explained in a neat little box so you know exactly where you stand - and that is a luxe vegetarian, cruelty free, organic piece.

LOVELY LASHES // 3 JUNK FREE MASCARAS

Are we of the belief that something which is all natural, environmentally conscious and cruelty free must also conclude to zero design aesthetic and be less than beautifully pleasing to the eye?

I’m a prop stylist and set dresser so I spend most of my time scrutinising sets for the perfect prop placement or staring into photographs. Usually wondering whether to pipe up that the teacup is most certainly in line with the edge of the table and therefore must be adjusted.

I crave the same attention to detail within my beauty products, and I believe there are others out there who feel similarly.

One product currently within my beauty bag which is most certainly not pleasing to the eye, is my mascara. I’m yet to make that transition to a cruelty free, chemical free product and feel challenged that something which is applied to such a sensitive area of the face should be treated with thoughtfulness.

Here are 3 Mascaras that I’m keen to cast my eye over & why:

Ere Perez
The only natural waterproof mascara on the planet - this Australian Based Brand’s simple, clean packaging translates their dedication to a clean product free from parabens, paraffin, petrol, lead, mineral oil, BHT & BHA as well as synthetic fragrances. Tick!

Green People
Green People’s award winning Organically Certified Volumising Mascara boasts rave reviews from The Guardian and is free from petrochemicals, synthetic ingredients and microbeads, as well as including nourishing Vitamin E to lengthen lashes making them stronger, not brittle.

ZAO
Initially I was drawn to Zao’s stand out packaging; a bamboo exterior complete with cotton pouch. With 100% natural ingredients, 45% of which are Organically Certified as well as maintaining a Vegan Product it feels like unwrapping this beauty would be a daily treat.

So here’s the before shot, watch this space for an update on the above.
