FEEL THE LOVE // Ere Perez's Red Lip in Fiesta

Todays the day! Are you feeling the love?

Well I certainly am for this Cherry Red Olive Oil Lipstick by Ere Perez in Fiesta which packs such a punch it puts matches even the big guns like Mac's Russian Red.

OK so it's not totally matte - but we all know how to get around that with a light touch of translucent powder to dampen down shine - don't we ladies?

Olive Oil is the main component in this rich and nourishing stick, which has got me all in a tizzy for the big day, so much so I went all out on red, for the most romantic day of the year.

SWEET AS A NUT // Ere Perez Natural Almond Oil Mascara

Received as a birthday present last month from my in-laws, this mascara is thicker and packs a little more of a dramatic punch to my usual daytime mascara (Green People's Volumising Mascara), and I think that's down to a different wand-shape, with wider spacing between the rows of bristles allowing more space for the inky rich mascara to sit between, thus transferring to the lash.

There's a sweet smell to this product - one that I'm not overly keen on if I'm honest - and I was surprised to the size of the mascara is quite small in comparison to what others are offering at a cheaper price.

But the rich, inky blackness is worth the while requiring less time to build up upon than other mascaras and as per usual, I'm a big fan of Ere Perez's clean branding and pure ethos.

Here's a few snaps of me wearing it:

WINTER SKIN RESCUE // AS Apothecary

A couple of weeks back on a really frosty Winter’s Night I was invited to the AS Apothecary shop opening in Lewes, Sussex.

I had been admiring AS Apothecary lovingly from afar for some time now, but turns out we had a mutual friend! So it was a pleasure to be there in person to introduce myself - mostly by basically fangirling over Amanda’s encyclopedic knowledge of plants and herbal remedies for all sorts of ailments.
..Infact, I was so
caught up in conversation that I was definitely, embarrassingly the last person to leave the gorgeous shop that night!

I left with a couple of goodies, which I’m featuring this week as my Winter Skin Rescue secret formula. Both are oil based, rich in nutrients and filled to the brim with nothing but goodness!

I’m personally a bit freaked out by oils on the face; mostly down to my fine hair which deems itself greasy within breathing distance of any oil residue. So I’ve kept the Facial Serum & Cleansing Oil to an end of day routine, and with all these Christmas Do’s this time of year, the make up has been heavy on the eyes and the nights have been late!

Nothing is too much of a match for this beautiful Cleansing Oil - it’s a joy to squeeze out from the pipette into my palm like science labcoat technician - but it is a very odd feeling rubbing a waterproof oil into my face to reveal nothing but a charcoal smear from my eyes to my chin.

There’s a slight panic on first use as I catch myself in the mirror - it forms a sort of barrier as it lifts the make up - & I’m thinking there’s no way this will all come off without residue. But it’s the exact opposite to my expectations - every, last, scrap of makeup comes off when combined with a steaming hot face cloth, and absolutely no residue is left on the face. There’s no dry-ness, itching or stinging - the end result is a soft, clean skin which feels nourished and bouncy.

The Facial Serum, Amanda proceeds to tell me, is full of some of their best and finest ingredients. From Rosehip Oil to Jojoba Oil - a free radical preventative, rich in antioxidants and full of Vitamin E for gorgeous clear skin. It’s intensely rich, smells divine and is best left to settle into the skin as an overnight serum.

AS Apothecary is unashamedly transparent about their slow, meditative process and approach to gathering by hand by respecting wildlife that's the intrinsic core to their making process. They use small batch methods, recycle and reduce waste where possible, use local and organic produce from East Sussex and even grow their wildflower ingredients themselves.

PERFECT PEEPERS // Volumising Mascara - GREEN PEOPLE

Last week I talked about my exploration into organic mascaras.. Having not yet made the transition across. And this week I’ve managed to get my mits onto the Volumising Mascara by fellow Sussex Locals, Green People.

Full of natural pigments and dowsed in Vitamin E, Sunflower Oil & Organic Beeswax, there is a big difference when applying this inky, sleek little number to my lashes first time.

Slick and not claggy, I was surprised to feel that my lashes seemed instantly nourished and full - rather than bogged down and flakey. Every comb allowed a silken coat; gliding on much smoother than what I am used to and the build up was very effective.

Non-messy or sticky, the wand holds more rigidity than a bushy, bristley wand - but I think this works in it’s favour for defining the lashes and coating them evenly.

I wasn’t expecting definition from a volumising mascara but I’ve been extremely impressed with the definition of my lashes on application - each individual lash seemingly more defined rather than just becoming more heavy upon loading. And they remained at their pre-application curled state so I didn’t need to re-curl to open the eyes up again.

There is an admirable simplicity in the packaging; a glossy black tube with exactly what it needs to say highlighted in a zero fuss font. Plus all the ingredients on the packet explained in a neat little box so you know exactly where you stand - and that is a luxe vegetarian, cruelty free, organic piece.

TALC-FREE TRESSES // Organic Dry Shampoo Powder by Corinne Taylor

There is a new essential to add to my ever increasing box of magic tricks in the beauty cabinet and that is an Organic Dry Shampoo Powder from Corinne Taylor.

Handmade in Brighton, I was happy to support a local via this particular Dry Shampoo; but it needed to be hassle free & tick all the boxes before I invested in it as a regular.

So, what was on my 'no fuss' list for this Dry Shampoo to stand up to the task?

Well, it had to smell delicious - which it does; a zesty, lemony freshness that comes from the Organic Grapefruit essential oil within it. There's also a summery background scent, which smells like an English Rose Garden – very feminine and takes it up a notch from feeling like an everyday item to feeling a little more luxe.

Secondly, it was also important that it didn't clump or clog up in a white, grainy texture on the scalp once applied to my hair. And I found this Organic Dry Shampoo Powder to be super lightweight and mattifying – soaking up any excessive oil to leave my hair feeling refreshed; not heavy.

Finally, I wanted to find a Dry Shampoo that was as natural as can be - in a continued effort to move away from petroleum, aerosol-like products which leave me coughing and spluttering.

Talc-free, paraben-free, sls-free and organic; it's clear these values are just as important to Corinne in her products, as they are to me hunting them down. It's not left my travel bag since...

KEEP IT CLEAN // Haeckels Seabuckthorn Facial Cleanser

I'm delighted to introduce you to the following Facial Cleanser, the Seabuckthorn Facial Cleanser from Haeckels - a recent discovery from one of my all time favourite local retailers, Workshop.

Handmade & full of the finest botanicals the Garden of England has to offer, Haeckels' heart lies in sourcing local plants and herbs through wild crafted practices and don't load their skincare products with synthetics; only natural botanicals from their Kentish Laboratory.

Haeckels hold one of only two licenses to cultivate seaweed from the shores of Margate within the British Isles and are deeply concerned with the responsibility this holds. So much so, that the seaweed has been made star of the show and is used throughout the range due to the rarity of the conditions in which it grows in.

Fragrant and rich in application, this cleanser feels balancing, calming and toning to the skin, without stripping moisture from it. It's not massively foaming - perfect for dry skin tones like myself.

It's scent is complex, fresh and intriguing; slightly medicinal and it's light gel-like texture packs a punch so only a small amount is needed to go a long way.

Hackles never test on animals, only people (A+) & contribute to caring for and cleaning the coastlines in which their main ingredient grows (A++). The Seabuckthorn Cleanser comes in a 100ml brown glass bottle, meaning it's perfect for travel reuse &/or is easily recyclable.

I'm really excited about getting my hands on some more of their range - I've already sampled the stunningly scented Geranium Hand Balm, so I see a slight obsession coming on...
